Sharon has been tutoring our 8-year-old twin boys in reading and writing for over two years. She is warm, reliable, and very effective. She works with them to understand phonics, punctuation and has helped them expand their vocabulary. She has patiently and diligently helped one of our sons who struggles with reading and writing (more so than his brother), to become a confident and proficient reader. Also, thanks in large part to Sharon's great work, our other son recently received the highest score in his second grade class on his recent writing exam. Our boys always look forward to their weekly session with Sharon, who makes reading and writing fun and interesting. We would enthusiastically recommend Sharon to anyone looking for a reading and writing tutor.

Sharon Lawless has tutored our daughter for the past two years. We realized in 1st Grade that our daughter was having difficulty staying focused and just struggled with learning to read. We had her tested and she was identified as having a Language Processing Disorder. IPD falls under the Dyslexia Umbrella of Learning Disabilities.
With very little resources available at her school, we started looking for a private tutor who specialized in helping children with reading issues. We found Sharon through word of mouth recommendations from other parents in our school.
Sharon is a true blessing. She teaches the Susan Barton Reading/Spelling System which helped our daughter get a grip of how phonics works in reading. Sharon is patient, understanding and comes with a mountain of teaching experience.
Our daughter is now in 2rd Grade and her reading and comprehension skills have vastly improved. I highly recommend Sharon Lawless as a tutor especially if your child has some type of LD. Experience counts.

My daughter had trouble reading in 1st grade and did not receive the help she needed in school. She did one tutoring program and limped along, I was then introduced to the Susan Barton program. We started with a temporary tutor and then found Sharon. She was wonderful. When lessons were hard and my daughter became stubborn or tried to manipulate Sharon she could redirect her to perform. She was always patient and because her background is in resourse and special education, she was able to help me focus on how to help my daughter as well as what to ask of the teachers and the school. After three years, my daughter has graduated from the program and is beginning to read for pleasure.
